Mock up Front Cover and Contents Page

Experimentation of the Name of Magazine/Mode of Address

Mode of Address:

The focus group all agree the best way to connect to students is to use informal language. Make the whole magazine chilled, relaxed and easy to understand. Another way to really connect to the student readers and make them enjoy reading your magazine is to address them, use the word "you" a lot so it makes the students feel like you've written the magazine just for them. This will make the magazine really effective.

Name of Magazine:
I have chosen to make the name of my magazine "Student Escape" I have chosen this name because the focus group I interviewed said using the word student in the name catches there eyes more so there more likely to read the magazine. Also I have added the word escape on the end of student, this is because students work all day and if they spend there money on a magazine they want it to be fun and entertaining not more work related. Therefor the word escape makes it sound like students can escape and have a chilled out entertaining time reading my magazine.

Experimentation with the Colour Scheme

Colour Scheme:

I have chosen to use pink and blue for my colour scheme throughout my magazine. These colors will be good to use throughout because they are bright and would catch your eye, which is what the focus group said the colours needed to be. Another thing the focus group said about the colour scheme of the magazine is how it must attract the attention of both female and male. These two colours do this because the blue is for the boys and the pink is for the girl. This gives me the opportunity as-well to colour code My magazine, so the girly bits are in pink and the boy bits are in blue. Also pink and blue make the magazine have a feel of fun and bubbly which is how i want my magazine to come across. I will continuously use these colours throughout my magazine so it consistent and professional.

Research From Target Audience

How could the title on the magazine catch your eye?

The Focus group came up with the theory that the title of the magazine is one of the main thing you base on whether your going to read the magazine or not. They say the title needs to address them so they know that the magazine is for them for example have the word student in it.Another thing is make the tittle something interesting so it grabs your eye on being funny so it makes you want to read the magazine. Also it has to be big and bold, needs to really stand out and catch there eye, it needs to be clear and colourful.

What colour scheme would you like and why?

The focus group all decided that bright colours attract them and catch there eyes. They said a maximum of two colours together or else it looks messy and unprofessional. They also said to use colours which attract both female and males.

What sort of layout would attract you, would you want the magazine to be consistent layout throughout?

The Focus group all said that the layout on the first page should be clear to understand and interesting, the layout of the whole magazine should include a lot of images. They said the inside of the magazine should all have a sort of consistent layout which is simple to understand but not identical the whole way through otherwise the magazine will get boring to read.

How much would you be willing to pay for the magazine/ why?

The focus group said with still being in education so not being able to work students have a low income, therefore cant spend lots on a magazine. They all said they'd pay anything up to a pound, but if it was more than 50p it would have to impress them a lot with the contents inside. They said the ideal price would be 50p.

What sort on content would you want to read about in a magazine?

Throughout the focus group I had a lot of ideas which were all similar to the ones I had put in my initial ideas, like goss of celebs, festival information, how to survive school, fashion tips for college etc. But they all agreed that in the content of a magazine you should have a suitable puff inside which would attract the students attention.

What sort of language style would you be most comfortable reading a magazine in, formal or informal?

The whole focus group straight away said informal. After students have worked hard all day they buy and magazine to relax. Therefore the perfect language style would be informal, relaxed and easy to understand.

What images would catch your eye?

The whole focus group said bright, entertaining ones. The Females said clothes, magazine, celebritys etc. whereas the males said new cars, sports etc. So I will have to balance the images in my magazine to attract  both female and male readers. Both female and males said festival picture and pictures to do with music of bands etc. They said to attract student there will have to be a lot of interesting images inside the magazine

Initial Ideas for Student Magazine

Name of magazine:

  • Students guidebook- Gives the idea that this magazine will help you and give you advice to being a students.
  • How to survive student life- This also gives you the idea the information inside will be helpful for your student times.
  • Students escape- This makes the magazine seem lay back and a bit of a escape from work and being serious, like this magazine is going to be fun and entertaining for students to read in there spear time.
  • College life- This just makes students think it going to be a overview of college and what not to do and what to do.
  • SSL - stands for Survive student life- This name also would make the students feel like its going to help them through there student life.
I am going to make the name of my magazine something catchy and something that sounds like a magazine worth reading! I want my name to have the words student or college in it, so its obvious who my target audience is. I want the name to be different so it stands out from other student magazines.

House Style:

The house style of my magazine will include consistency and continuity. I will use the same colour scheme through out. I have chosen that the best colour scheme that would appeal to students is bright bubbly colours, this is because they are eye-catching and also make the magazine look fun, entertaining and worth reading. I will also incorporate colours which will appeal to female and male so my magazine appeals to both. I will use a minimum of different types of fonts, this is so its consistent and looks professional. I will use a San-serif font so its easy for the student to read and understand. I will use the same font for all my main text but a different yet similar font for my headings, this is so the headings are easy to spot so you can follow and understand the magazine more. Although the Masthead will feature a unique font which will stand out from the others, so its eye-catching.

Colour Palette:

Mode of Address/ use of language:

I will make the whole of my magazine informal. I will use slang and text talk to really communicate to my target audience, I will write my magazine in a way they will understand easily so its not a challenge to read the magazine but a relaxing entertaining magazine student want to read. i will use images that will connect to students and make them interested to read more into the magazine. also i will have advertisement in my magazine with will relate to students. I will use the word "you" a lot so the reader feels like the ,magazine is addressing them, so the students feel connected.

Central image:

The central image on the front of my magazine must really communicate to my target audience and really grab there attention. The central image will make the decision whether the student is going to read it or not. The central image must be something that connects to students. The central image will be the back ground of my front page so it must be eye-catching

Some ideas of what subject I might use as my central image:

  • Festival picture- someone enjoying them self at a festival because student love going to festivals.
  • Sport- Most student (although I am not one) love to do sports and sports really catches there eyes.
  • Students- Student having fun and doing something exciting will catch there eye because it shows clearly who the target audience is.
  • Celebrities- If the central image is a celebrity that all students love it may  make them read into the magazine more

Font Style:

Content:
My Magazine will be consistent of all things student related, including images and subjects that connect to students. I will make the content of my magazine all informal so its fun to read and not to heavy.

 Content will include:

  •  Adverts- for make up and clothes eg stuff that students would want,
  • Free give away contests- like winning free festival tickets
  • Articles- on the goss of celebrities, how to survive as a student, fashion for college and new opportunities which will occur eg..
  • Chart information- on books, films, music. so the magazine entertains students
